Orlando trip day 1-Collaboration with Jonathan Vasquez
The redner.salonga photography team collaborated with Orlando photographer Jonathan Vasquez our first day in Orlando. We started bright and early in the morning. The models and Jon arrived at Jasmin’s apartment around 9am. The models got their hair done by Margo Nelms and make-up done by Jessica Dabrowski. I dabbled a little bit in styling by picking out the the top for one of the models. The theme for the shoot was “Disturbia,” and the location for the shoot was a shack. We arrived at the shack around 12pm. Redner and Jon set up their lights and cameras and started shooting. The shack was very cluttered, but spacious at the same time.I got to shoot some pictures as well. The team did not stop working till around 6 in the evening. I have never spent so much time on a shoot before. At the end of the day my final thoughts are that there are many different types of photographers and people in this industry with different styles and personalities. Jonathan Vasquez has a cool style, and a lovely personality. I love how creative he is with lighting and I love how crisp his images are. I enjoyed working with him.

High Fashion Vegetable Shoot
The high fashion vegetable shoot is the second installment in the monthly fashion shoots by Redner Salonga and Krystal Blase. This is the result of a great compilation of ideas from a great team of people. This shoot was inspired by a photographer in the Philippines and took on a life of it’s own when we put our own spin to it. We started thinking of the colors we would like to use and then assigned each model a color. Then, we picked a fruit or vegetable that would best represent that color. The real creativity happened when we began thinking of interesting ways display the fruits and how hair and makeup would showcase each girl. Our ideas started as cherry tomato earrings and turned into watermelon helmets, carrot crowns, and rambutan earrings. I had a really challenging but fun time creating a lettuce collar, which I actually stapled and taped together. This shoot took a lot of time because of the days of planning prior to the day of the shoot. Each girl had a custom look designed by Cathee, Paulina, Suzette, and Margo. With this team, it’s so funny how you can start off with a “simple” idea and then watch it evolve into a pineapple headpiece and a cabbage bra. We took the weekend, (that’s right an entire weekend!) to shop at the farmer’s market and create each one of a kind piece of edible jewelry. Note to self: add jewelry designer to my list of duties as Redner’s intern. Monday finally came and we were lucky to have a group of energetic models bring a lot of fun to the studio as well. The planning process is always fun, but the real magic happens the day of the shoot. A model with a great attitude can inspire a makeup artist, hairstylist, and photographer to be even more creative even after a few days of planning. Besides having a great team to work with all day I must admit it was pretty nice being in the AC too, especially with Erle’s bright lights from filming all day. Well, enough of my rambling. Be sure to check out a sneak peak of the photos on Facebook. The team has already picked the theme for next shoot: Candy and Sweets. This is going to be a lot of fun and the team already has a lot of crazy ideas. Be sure to sign up and become part of the creativity.

The redner.salonga photography team and Krystal Blase from West House photography got together with some amazingly supportive and up for the challenge models to show their take on the horrible tragedy of the oil spill in the Gulf through our photography.
Arvie Witherspoon Photo Shoot
“The jungle” offered inspiration for the photo shoot with UNF student Arvie Witherspoon. From Paulina Perez’s smokey makeup to Arvie’s “European bathingsuit” and long, teased, cascading hair, Arvie looked like a Brazillian bombshell prowling about in her Amazon jungle kingdom.
However, the set and location was not as enchanting as the pictures may indicate. In the Florida humidity and heat in the early afternoon we began shooting at Castaway Island Preserve, a relatively small nature park along the marshy Intracoastal Waterway. We trudged through dirt, mud, spider webs, and tiny scurrying crabs as we found different locations around trees and shallow water to shoot. Because Arvie’s wardrobe was minimal (black bra and nude colored bottoms) we had to be creative and utilize what nature had to offer to add a prop/accessory: a palm frond. We had no clips to help attatch the large leaf to Arvie’s hair so creating the illusion that it was a crafty hair accessory was tricky- we had me holding up the palm frond directly behind her hiding from Redner’s camera while making it a headdress for the picture.

Crystal Chree Photo Shoot
We had the pleasure to shoot with rising Jacksonville rap artist Crystal Chree. The photo shoot was for her upcoming new album (which I personally had purchased from her at the end of the shoot). The theme we were going for was urban/hip hop and Redner had an appropriate location in mind. Crystal had brought three outfits she wanted to wear along with accessories, accessories…and more accessories! After getting to know Crystal for a little bit I started to get the feel of her personal style and wanted it to be represented well in her shoot. Her cousin Nini and I went through and deliberated which pieces of jewelry to go with specific outfits. We had a lot of fun mixing and matching and getting her all blinged up!
The back alleys and the graffiti walls behind some Riverside commercial and restaurant buildings provided the backdrop for the shoot. I think we all liked a disconnected white door leaning against one of the buildings that had graffiti that said “Try this at home” and used it in several shots with her. But I think we can all agree that the best part of the shoot was when we were shooting Crystal in the alleyway behind the restaurant. Some of the employees had opened the backdoor and saw us. They rounded and herded more of workers to look and see and to say the least we found us an “audience”! T

Intern training with Tony from T&M Photography
Intern training with Tony from T&M Photography was amazing! Evaliz Cotto was the model, Catherine Molina was the make-up artist, and Nandi K was the stylist. Redner,Amanda and I followed Tony and his entourage to the secret locaition. T&M Photography is notorious for their secret locations, and exquisite style. When we arrived at the location Tony decided that we would take pictures on the roof. How did we get the equipment up there you ask? Well at the side of the building there were some hanging stairs, and we transported the equipment person by person up the stairs. When we arrived on the roof I saw a storm cloud in the distance, but I didnt worry about it because I thought we would be long gone when it arrived over the roof. Haaaa hahah I was wrong. After awhile I had to go back downtstairs because I did not want to get hit by lighting. Tony wanted to try to capture the lightning in one of his pictures of Eva, but there were many flashes of lightning and it looked dangerous,so he decided not to. After the shoot Tony, and the redner.salonga photography team capped of the night with a trip to Mcdonalds. Tony critiqued the pictures of Amanda and I,and I am very grateful for his insight. I will never forget this day!
